PaW 2009 Week 8 – Deer at Lake Fairfax

deer-1-opt

Camera specs: Canon EOS Rebel XS fitted with a 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 lens, f6.3 @ 1/100 seconds, ISO 320, 300mm focal length, hand held.

I felt it fitting after this weeks Spotlight post on wildlife photographer Steve Creek to have a wildlife shot of my own.  Not on the scale of Steve’s work yet but I’m still working on it.  My wife and I took a drive through Lake Fairfax Park and spotted a group of deer grazing in a field.  Unfortunately I spooked them early and we didn’t get many shots.

Spotlight on Steve Creek

Welcome to the new format for the Spotlight posts on User 40.0.  I wanted to get more input from the photographers I admire so evolved the article into more of a questionnaire/interview format.  I must admit the questions were greatly influenced by other interviews on the web like those at Photography Inteviews by Crash Taylor.  I’ll also admit a personal motive for these.  I benefit as much, if not more so, than the readers since I learn a great deal from them.  After all that is the purpose of this blog, to share what I learn with the community. I’d greatly appreciate any feedback on this new format, also if there are questions or areas you would like to see added.

screekMy first Spotlight in this format falls on Steve Creek of Steve Creek Outdoors.  Steve is a Law Enforcement officer in my home state of Arkansas that has taken his experience documenting crime scenes and turned out some really outstanding wildlife images.  My wife first found Steve on the web and we’ve both been following his blog for a few months now.  I hope you enjoy his photos as much as we do.  As always, feedback is appreciated and I’m sure Steve would welcome any comments on his site as well.

Red and Scarlett

fcard-1

Yesterday I posted some pictures of some of our friends that have been making a visit to our back deck over the winter.  My favorites are the squirrels but of the feathery variety I have to say I like seeing the pair of male and female cardinals.  I think its fitting during this Valentine season to post some cardinal shots.  I’ve never seen love birds in the wild but our cardinals would have to come close.  When we see one we know the other is not far behind.

The Studio Right Outside My Window

squ-2 I’m lucky to have a wife that cares for the little denizens of our neighborhood.  Birds, squirrels, butterflies and chipmunks can always find a meal at our house.  This winter she ensures there is a never-ending supply of birdseed and keeps the suet feeder full.  Everyday around lunchtime the little animals line up to feed at the trough.
