Canon Releases Software Updates for Multiple Cameras

Canon USA has issued a number of software updates for it’s DSLR and compact digital cameras on their site.

The updates vary by camera model and operating system, but includes the company’s Digital Photo Professional, EOS Utility, WFT Utility, Picture Style Editor and Original Data Security Tools applications. Almost all of the company’s EOS digital SLR models receive software updates, as do four of their compact cameras.

Around the Web 1-16-09

With an upcoming redesign of WorthPoint, I’ve been knee-deep in the development of a new Wordpress theme, definitely a new venture for me.  I haven’t had the opportunity to get my hands dirty and develop anything for quite awhile professionally.  While I’m putting the theme together, most of the heavy lifting is being provided by our crack staff in Columbus, OH (thanks Jason).  This effort is keeping me busy but its nice to be part of a development team again and not just managing the schedules.

I’ve ignored my RSS feeds for most of the week but slowly catching up this evening.  Here’s the ones that caught my eye and another great photo from The Upgraders group at Flickr.

By the way, you can find these bookmarks and more on the new Digital Photography Community over at Mixx.  Join me there won’t you?

Real World Review – Canon G10 – A Weighty Decision in the Point and Shoot World

I normally will not list hardware reviews but being a Canon S5 owner I am interested in it’s successor, the G10.

10 Reasons For Getting Your Kids Into Photography

My daughter took up photography without any encouragement from us but our son is less inclined.  This post shows good examples of why photography for kids can be fun and beneficial.  there is a great shot of Martin’s 10 year old son with a lens that probably larger than his head but he’s holding it like a pro.  This is a follow-up to his previous Getting Your Kids Started In Photography post (first the how, then the why).

Tips for taking and extremely good examples of lightning photos.  I’ll have to revisit this post in the summer months.

from Change.gov, The Office of the President-elect

The official presidential portrait of Barack Obama has been released.  It was taken by the newly announced White House photographer, Pete Souza.  What makes this newsworthy for this blog is that it was the first presidential portrait taken with a digital camera, a Canon 5D MKII.  Take that Nikon!

My Ideal Camera Bag Inventory

I ran across a holiday gift guide at Photo.net today and it got me dreaming.  Since purchasing my Canon EOS Rebel XS I’ve been looking around for the best equipment to fit my style and skill level.  Another requirement is that the purchase of any lens does not break my bank.  If I could fill a camera bag tomorrow with Canon equipment for my XS, this is what would be in it. Black Friday Photography Deals: BF Day -7

Today I’m going to take the easy route and remind you of a previous post from last month concerning Canon’s Fall rebate offers.  There are a number of lenses and Speedlite models available in this program.  The rebate offers are good until January 17 but there has been a snag.  Today I learned that Canon’s third-party rebate processing company, Continental Promotion Group, filed for bankruptcy on November 14th. Black Friday Photography Deals: BF Day -8

In seven days most of us will be enjoying the Thanksgiving Holiday by spending the day with family and friends, watching the Macy’s Parade followed by a football game or two, cooking and eating some turkey and all the fixins. Then most importantly of all, we’ll nap. On the couch, on the floor, on the easy chair or any available horizontal space available we’ll fall into a tryptophan induced slumber. Don’t discount this important tradition as you’ll need the rest for the following day. Black Friday comes every year with a plethora (I’ve always wanted to use that word) of sales from every conceivable merchant you can think of. Without some prior planning you can spend your Black Friday swimming through a sea of shoppers, many of who have totally forgotten the love, caring and sharing of the previous day.

Between now and Black Friday, and the ensuing Cyber Monday, I’ll be scouring the web to find some of the best deals available on digital photography equipment. Hopefully you’ll find something here to save you some time. Continue reading »
