Cult of Wendys
My job at Worthpoint has me traveling weekly to Dublin, OH (outside of Columbus). Dublin is a unique community with a number of its own quirky personality traits. The roads hardly make any sense, Irish pride abounds with stone fences and images of shamrock at every turn, Van Halen can be found at almost any hour on the radio. Just the normal kind of quirks you can find in most communities.
What Dublin is probably most famous for is that it is the International corporate headquarters of Wendys.
In fact, the building I work in used to be theirs until they upgraded to the campus they are in today.
Back home in Northern Virginia I would guess (and don’t flame me if you know the real numbers) that McDonalds has two to three times the locations that Wendys, or even Burger King, have. Not here in Dublin, I would guess its at least 3:1 for Dave Thomas’s famous daughter (hardly see any Burger King here).
The store above is just down the road from corporate HQ. Can you imagine being the manager of this one? Its got to be either the best or the worst job in the world. I stopped by this one for lunch the other day and saw a number of Wendys suits come in. What do Wendys executives eat you may wonder? Fries! The entree may change but they all had fries. Burgers and fries, salads and fries, chili and fries.
The food at this one was ok, better than the normal Wendys I get back home but nothing spectacular. I have to admit though, I hit this place at least for 3 meals this trip. I’m a big fan of their burgers, chili and even the baked potatoes….but Micky Dee’s fries have them beat. I just have to be careful not to say that in public here in Dublin.
The first ever Wendys restaurant is around here somewhere. I plan on looking for it during a future trip.
Wouldn’t working in here be the coolest? I’d be all like “Hey, lets try making a quadruple! And put some chili on it!”
